Senior Commodity Buyer, Packaging
The Senior Commodity Buyer, Packaging manages the total packaging costs, supplier relationships, paper/EPS commodity, and supplier strategy for corrugate, EPS, corner posts, wood, and adhesives. Owns the business continuity plan and financial risk as well as facilitates managing those risks. Serves as a subject matter professional in the paper/EPS commodities and has a deep understanding of the industry and key drivers in the market. Understands packaging technology and has a sound working knowledge of the materials, cost drivers, markets, and competition within the buy. Drives the execution of the commodity strategy for GEA. Works with R&D, product management, marketing, and operations on a daily basis and on new product introductions.
What you will Do
Develop, drive and execute the sourcing strategy for corrugate, EPS, corner posts, wood, and adhesives.
Build and manage relationships with the supply base to lead to multi-beneficial solutions.
Review the markets and commodity indexes to leverage best costs and understand drivers.
Work effectively cross-functionally to develop and execute sourcing strategies to deliver against material cost take out, quality, delivery, and cash goals.
Head strategic negotiations and execute supplier agreements where appropriate.
Utilize the RFQ tool, global spend cube, should cost modeling, and other systems to manage supplier negotiations, identify projects, and drive cost out execution.
Adept at preparing cost benefit analysis.
Manage supply base and orchestrate potential supplier transitions to ensure continuity of supply at manufacturing locations.
Head up semi-annual business reviews for select suppliers with executive level audience.
Introduce supplier innovation whenever possible to separate GEA from the competition.
Work with the Mabe packaging buyer, and other sibling companies packing buyers where applicable, to identify opportunities to leverage bests costs, practices, and common design.
Serve as a liaison between Sourcing, other business functions, and suppliers to ensure all parties are effectively supporting the GEAs programs, NPIs, and business goals.
Financial reporting consisting of budgeting and variance to planned spending.
What you need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree, required
5 years of relevant experience within supply chain, program management, commodity management or in a related role involving negotiating, leading cost out projects, selecting suppliers and implementing contracts
Ability to develop and manage steady relationships with suppliers and internally within GEA
Demonstrates initiative and takes action proactively when leading
Takes ownership of issues & take actions
Excellent time management and self-accountability
Professional and timely oral/written communication
Ability to quickly learn new IT systems
Exceptional skills with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business or related field
3 years of functional experience in the packaging industry
Working knowledge of should cost modeling and multi-regression analysis
Working knowledge of sourcing systems and processes
New Product Introduction (NPI) experience from working in operations, research and development and/or manufacturing
Demonstrated Lean experience
Six Sigma certification or equivalent
