The Challenge

The Quality Subsystem Leader (QSL) executes operational and strategic efforts focused on product quality improvement, with primary oversight of the product/component testing and manufacturing control plan (MCP) auditing processes in an assigned manufacturing area.

What you will Do

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential results-based duties

Drive projects that improve yield, reduce scrap, and improve quality experience of our customers

  • Collaborate with team to determine priority of projects.
  • Utilize problem solving tools to eliminate issues.
  • Ensure defects found from area are contained to downstream areas and escapes to customers - Put projects in place to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Drive scrap reduction for area and downstream processes that are caused by the case line – understand defects, root causes, and put projects in place to prevent.
  • Use calibrated gages such as: Calipers & Multi-meters to teach and train repair technicians to diagnose problems.
  • Approve and communicate deviations for area.

Drive Quality Management System for area

  • Own Manufacturing Control Plan (MCP) for area and maintain change control. Ensure that assemblies and applicable processes are measured according to the MCP.
  • Review Statistical Process Control data collected for area and respond/escalate when issues are found.
  • Audit other areas as required and support audits of assigned area.
  • Create, update and maintain Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCI’s), visual aid and alerts (single point lessons) as needed.
  • Audit standard work to ensure processes vital to control plan are documented.
  • Ensure that gauges in area are calibrated as needed.

Own Direct Current (DC) guns for area

  • Ensure that DC guns are interlocked in area.  Drive completion of interlocks that are not in place.
  • Train ABLs and TLs to understand how to troubleshoot issues.
  • Troubleshoot DC gun issues as needed when ABL/TL cannot resolve.

What you need to Succeed

Position Requirement

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Engineering Degree is required.

Self-starter, with influencer skills. Experience stemming from working as part of successful cross-functional teams. Practiced positive communicator experienced in compiling from and sharing knowledge with entry to management level teams. Demonstrated knowledge needed to build feasible quality metrics with high productivity results. Computer literate and skilled in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience in manufacturing plant environments, manufacturing equipment and processes. Leadership experience in the definition, design, implementation and troubleshooting of manufacturing processes. Excellent project tracking and detailed planning skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has played a lead role in the development of dimensional control strategies with suppliers
  • Assisted in the design and procurement of gages and instruments from suppliers and engineering teams
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment with both salaried and hourly personnel to meet the needs of the operators, the program and the business.
  • Significant experience in implementing Lean process improvements in manufacturing operations.
  • Bachelors in Engineering preferred.
  • Experience interpreting data to solve problems associated with high volume, short cycle manufacturing of consumer products.
  • Knowledge of or experience in using and programming CMM or other automated metrology equipment.
  • Understanding of Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Graduate of OMLP, operations or other leadership development course or equivalent engineering related co-op or intern program.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are normal for a high-volume manufacturing environment. Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, gloves, and arm guards. This role will require frequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment. 10% or less travel may be for domestic and/or international travel to supplier sites/ plants, etc. Hours & Weekends: Working off-shift and weekends may be required.
