We are looking for a Principal Tooling Engineer. This position interfaces with product line teams, buyers, and other cross functional teams to optimize part design and cost. You will oversee part and tooling design as well as project management of die builds at suppliers. Additionally, this role works with metal stamping tooling suppliers on best practice development, manufacturing process improvements, root cause analysis, problem resolution, should cost analysis and maintaining existing tooling in support of GEA production.

How You'll Create Possibilities

• Drive execution of New Product Introduction (NPI) tooling projects and support current production by providing technical leadership for supplier-held tooling
• Work with GEA product design function on metal component and assembly part design for manufacturability, scoping tooling costs, and schedules
• Assist GEA Parts Suppliers, GEA Supplier Quality Engineers, and GEA buyers in developing appropriate, timely, and cost-effective new metal tooling while addressing current production tooling issues
• Work with tooling suppliers on adhering to industry standard tooling design practices as well as adhering to GEA tooling standards for new tooling. Review and approve all new die designs for NPI and any required current production parts to align with GEA schedules
• Maintain die build tracking logs throughout scoping, design, build, and qualification for new and modified tools
• Manage production risks through proactive, supplier-held asset management including refurbishment disposition, funding reviews, and preventative maintenance tracking
• Travel up to 20% required to affiliate sites and suppliers

What You'll Bring to Our Team

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience and/or Tooling Journeyman
• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience with tooling, including part design, tool design and fabrication, and/or processing experience
• Demonstrated experience successfully specifying dies
• Ability to use standard 3D part and tool modeling software, ie. SolidWorks or equivalent
• Solid understanding of tool fabrication processes, industry-standard tool steels, and parts standards
• Sound understanding of tooling cost structure and experience in managing multiple tool quotes and negotiating optimized tooling costs and lead times
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to drive projects and provide instructions/improvement recommendations to tool makers for solving problems
• Demonstrated project management skills; excellent project tracking and detailed planning skills required
• Solid experience in metal processing through tooling. Ability to solve processing problems and/or improve the efficiency of cycle time
