The Challenge

As a Sr. Manager, Lean Manufacturing, you'll work for the site Continuous Improvement Director to develop and execute a clear and compelling strategy that supports both the site and business-level Hoshin.

You'll lead and support 7 hourly direct-reports in a non-union operation.

What you will Do

  • Oversee, plan and execute plant improvement projects in support of the Lean plan, hoshin goals and Appliance Production System (APS) target conditions.

  • Organize and lead lean events to focus on eliminating waste in both product and process design. This includes labor cost out, factory flow improvements, safety/ergo, and material flow. Key enabler of strategy deployment and hoshin planning for the manufacturing operation, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the goals, objectives and strategies of the organization.

  • Develop value stream maps for the organization and eliminate process waste through implementation of lean techniques.

  • Drive consistency and timely implementation of all Lean activities (Lean internal kaizen event/Jushuken, Kaizen Promotion Office (KPO) creation, etc.). 

  • Coach and teach plant support staff, including front line leaders and team leaders.

  • Provides coaching, mentoring and training on the application of APS 
    methodology and tools in one-on-one and group settings to reinforce knowledge and skills attained during APS training.  

  • Coach and teach plant teams in developing and executing lean plans to reduce inventory, lead-time, and waste to improve process quality.

  • Creates opportunities for employees to learn through their jobs and within the classroom. Develops training material as needed.

  • Provide daily work direction and coaching to Kaizen Promotion Office (I.E tech) team members. Facilitate day-to-day activities for KPO. Prioritize and assign out work.

  • Track progress of projects to ensure timely completion.

  • Develop the Lean skill set of KPO's through ongoing coaching and teaching. 
    Other related duties as assigned  

  • Network with other GE Appliance Lean teams to capture and promote lean best practices. Order materials for projects.  

  • Other duties and projects as assigned. 


What you need to Succeed

Required experience, skills, or knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS, BA , BSEE, BSME, BSIE).

  •  5 years of experience working within a manufacturing environment in roles of increasing responsibility and influence.

  •  3 years of experience utilizing Lean techniques and tools within a high-volume production operation.

  • Strong project management skills to independently develop, manage, lead and implement aggressive project plans.

Preferred experience, skills, or knowledge:

  • Prior experience working within and developing under the Appliance Production System (APS) in such roles as Team Leader, Kaizen Promotion Officer (KPO), and/or Area Business Leader.

  • Experience building, empowering, and leading Lean continuous improvement projects and talented cross-functional teams.

  • Experience applying Lean tools and processes, such as Kaizen, 5S, Poka-Yoke, Kanban, JIT, Jidoka, SMED, and Heijunka.

  • Ability to build and promote organizational change management initiatives focused on positive relationships, building an idea/problem-solving culture.

  • Vision and courage to pursue big ideas, encourage smart experimentation.

  •  Ability to communicate complex matters in a simple, understandable format.

  •  Strong analytical, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.

  • Green Belt or Black Belt Six Sigma Certification. 

Working Conditions: 

  • Working conditions are normal for both an office and manufacturing environment. Work may involve lifting materials and products up to 30 pounds.

  • Working in the manufacturing environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, work shoes/boots.

  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
