Senior Refrigeration Design Engineer

The Challenge

This opportunity is for an innovative lead design engineer within the Refrigeration Structures COE team. This is a hands-on Technology engineering position specializing in the design and development of new refrigerator platforms. The engineer will be involved in design, prototyping, documentation, testing and evaluation of our next generation refrigerators manufactured across the globe.

What you will Do

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead design for refrigerator platforms optimizing for safety, energy efficiency, performance, reliability, and cost while driving lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ensure manufacturability of component and subsystem designs.
  • Baseline and study competitor designs and product performance.
  • Test and evaluate design configurations. Document and present results.
  • Guide development refrigerator laboratory infrastructure and equipment.
  • Guide factory process and equipment planning to ensure product safety, performance and reliability expectations are met. 
  • Understand and navigate the patent landscape regarding refrigerator technologies.
  • Provide leadership in understanding of industry standards and specifications with regard to conformance, codes, methods and performance related tests.
  • Provide leadership in, and a working knowledge of the Department of Energy (DOE) testing.
  • Work within a cross functional group of engineering, marketing, sales, quality, sourcing and manufacturing to develop specifications for new innovative products and guide strategic technical direction.
  • Own and maintain design documentation and performance transfer functions for your concepts and prototypes.

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
  • Minimum 2 Years experience in Consumer Electronics Design
  • Minimum 7 years experience in product design and development.
  • Self-starter with solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with a passion for learning.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional global organization.
  • Fluent use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word software packages.
  • Working knowledge of PTC (Pro/Engineer) Creo 3D design software.
  • Travel required up to 25% during trial and production line builds

Desired Characteristics

  • MS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
