Senior Design Engineer - Ice and Beverage

The Challenge

This opportunity is for a Senior Design Engineer in the Ice and Beverage COE (Center of Excellence). This role reports to the Senior Director, Product Development responsible for Ice and Beverage Development inside Refrigeration Technology. Responsibilities include development of new ice making and delivery systems, electromechanical system design for new products, integration of water systems into product architecture, existing ice maker development, advanced ice maker development and product integration. This role will be focused on development and implementation of water delivery and ice making systems inside a bottom freezer refrigerator. Strong ownership is desired to work within an established team, while driving the system into a sellable product.

What you will Do

  • Demonstrate clear ownership of parts and system
  • Drive parts and system to be ready for production in factory
  • Work within the established team to achieve system design and implementation within program timeline
  • Lead ice making, ice storage and ice level detection system design
  • Work cross functionally inside GE Appliances to meet program objectives
  • Conduct evening conference calls with global suppliers

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree
  • Self-starting leader with 7 or more years of engineering experience or equivalent with excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills
  • Experience leading design of parts and systems
  • Ability to travel to refrigeration production facilities and suppliers (Approximately 25% of the time)
  • Advanced computer skills - high proficiency in Microsoft products and ability to grasp new systems quickly
  • Strong project management and analytical/problem solving skills with demonstrated ability to scope and analyze cross-functional problems to generate/implement solutions
  • Experienced with FMEA’s, product risk assessments, evaluation plan development, fishbone diagrams, tolerance loops, and design change processes
  • Experience on Design for Reliability and FRACAS quality System

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Reliability Practitioner or other quality certification
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and be capable of performing tolerance stack up calculations
