The Challenge

Our team in Decatur Alabama is seeking a Director of Materials. As the Director, you will be responsible for leading the materials function. This will include incoming and outgoing to ensure no disruption occurs within our plant operations. This will also include leading the daily material flow efforts and drive continuous improvement in the material flow.

What you will Do

     

  • Provide leadership and expertise for plant Materials Management function.  Oversees a team of materials professionals and hourly teams led by supervisors across multiple shifts.

  • Implement improvement programs and maximize performance in meeting business objectives.

  • Interact with product management/sales and status monthly and quarterly inventory levels to achieve goals. Lead the plant Production Sales Inventory (PSI) process.

  • Proactively drive continuous improvement materials programs utilizing Lean/Six Sigma methodologies and practices.

  • Responsible for the overall inventory management process emphasizing reduced inventory levels and increased inventory turns.

  • Determine strategic inventory plans that achieve business inventory commitments, while balancing customer lead time/business OTD requirements.

  • Work closely with Operations, ERP and Lean teams to identify and address Materials issues related to process improvements and accuracy.

  • Review and calculate ABC classifications, safety stock, economic order quantities. Ensure Inventory counts align with ERP (Oracle) inventory level.

  • Responsible for inventory portion of working capital reviews, generate and status on-going inventory project deck to drive inventory reductions.

  • Ensure all company-required tools, programs and management systems are properly implemented and that documentation required to support programs and management systems are comprehensive and up-to-date.

  • Benchmark and share best practices across GE Appliances.

What you need to Succeed

Position Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, engineering, or another relevant field

  • Five (5 ) years of materials management experience within a large, high-volume manufacturing & assembly environment. 

  • Ten (10) years experience working within a manufacturing environment.

  • Advanced experience with multiple supply bases, forecasting, scheduling, inventory control, and shipping/receiving.  

  • Proven leadership/management skills, including the ability to effectively coach, motivate, empower, develop, and evaluate employees. 

  • Exceptional systems capabilities, including MRP/ERP systems, WMS, and MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Desired experience, skills, or knowledge:  

  • Master's degree or APICS certification. 

  • Ten years of advanced materials management experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Prior experience in managing change or implementation of new processes. 

  • Exceptional planning/forecasting capabilities; experience in production control, forecasting, master scheduling, and Lean initiatives.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Detailed and proficient in data analysis. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate among multiple functional stakeholders. 

  • Six Sigma certification with experience in DMAIC, workout, and other change mechanisms.

  • Understanding and prior usage/application of Lean manufacturing principles.

  • Customer focus, high energy, and dynamic approach to issues. 

  • Excellent presentation skills and solid verbal/written communication skills. 

  • Initiative and ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks. 

  • Supplier management experience and project implementation.
