The Challenge

This position is part of the Refrigeration Electronics team, responsible for supporting projects within the Advanced Systems team. The position will be responsible for leading the development of new innovative technologies to support the refrigeration multi-generational product and technology plan with a focus on sensors, connectivity, and OTA updates. The position will closely interact with Product Management, IDO, and COE leaders to understand all consumer needs and provide innovative solutions which support the multi-generation product plan. This is a great opportunity to help define the next generation of refrigeration products including electrical hardware infrastructure, electronics, sensing technologies and connectivity. A unique element of the role is the opportunity to work with Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) code development. The use of skilled engineering analysis and judgment with a strong desire to exceed customer expectations in every way is paramount to the position success.

What you will Do

  • Support various Advanced Systems projects with electrical hardware/software development including circuit board design
  • Demonstrate feasibility of component and/or system level concepts via prototyping and simulations including data acquisition systems and data analysis
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams such as connected home, mobile app, and business-wide electronics to develop infrastructure designs, feasibility concepts and communicate project requirements and schedules
  • Complete detailed design reviews on the electronic controls, including both hardware and software
  • Develop ML and AI algorithms to support the business vision for connected appliances and a digital ecosystem
  • Create IP to contribute towards the refrigeration yearly goal. Evaluate competitive products and IP to understand landscape and opportunities for innovation
  • Explore and evaluate new technologies from suppliers, or Haier innovation centers for product application feasibility
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive requirements specifications for the controls. Own and maintain documentation for all design concepts and prototypes.
  • Develop detailed project schedules and evaluation plans while synchronizing control design efforts with other sub-system design leaders to ensure successful project execution
  • Coordinate control fabrication and qualification with the selected contract manufacturer
  • Manage co-development efforts with global engineering resources
  • Prepare and present project status to product management and VP of refrigeration
  • Up to 20% Travel required including domestic and foreign locations.
  • Develop, mentor and teach other engineers

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years of experience working on embedded controls
  • Proven hands-on experience with building prototypes and using lab equipment
  • Proven project management track record on several development projects
  • Experience with Design of Experiments methodology
  • Good command of sensing technologies and their application landscape
  • Strong electronic hardware design experience and good understanding of firmware/software development processes
  • Strong project planning and project leadership skills and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with co-workers
  • Excellent analytical, root-cause and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • Android computer board and LCD implementation experience
  • Demonstrated experience with new technology implementation in a factory environment
  • Android or iOS or Web based mobile App development
  • Control logic development experience
  • Higher level programming experience with Python, C++, JavaScript
  • Six Sigma certified Green Belt or Black Belt
  • Experience in working with global design teams
  • Experience in meeting domestic regulatory requirements (UL/FCC/etc – particularly UL60730 and/or UL1998)
  • Experience in meeting international regulatory requirements (IEC/CISPR/etc)
