The Challenge

The Commodity Sourcing Senior Manager, Capital Equipment & Tooling, will effectively manage approximately $75+ Million of annual spending as part of the Indirect Sourcing team. They will drive the total cost, relationship, and strategy of Tooling and Capital Equipment suppliers and commodities, including managing and understanding the total risk associated with suppliers and their supply chain. They will be responsible for collaborating across multiple product lines and functions to support NPIs and ongoing operations.

What you will Do


  • Develop, drive, and execute Sourcing strategies for the Capital Equipment & Tooling spend and deliver against cash, cost, delivery, and quality goals.
  • Serve as the purchasing subject matter pro in the commodity, with a deep knowledge of the technology, materials, and industry and an understanding of the comparative landscape. 
  • Drive world-class processes and expand the use of Sourcing techniques and tools (should-costing, reverse auctions, RFQ tool, etc.) to manage supplier negotiations and corresponding data. 
  • Effectively interface with internal functions and suppliers to ensure project outcomes meet GEA expectations (safety, quality, performance, timing) while proactively driving out cost and increasing value in each transaction. 
  • Partner with internal stakeholders (primarily Legal, AME, and Plant Engineering) to drive to industry standard practices in order to increase competition and reduce cost. 
  • Proactively identify and develop new suppliers within each commodity area; expand and diversify current supply base locally and globally.
  • Partner with affiliated companies to drive synergy in the space.  
  • Pioneer strategic negotiations, award business to suppliers, execute agreements and review and approve purchase orders.
  • Conduct risk assessments including regular supplier reviews to ensure proper management and execution.
  • Steer  Quarterly/Semi-Annual Business performance reviews with Executive Level audience.
  • Introduce supplier innovation whenever possible.
  • Drive the execution of the Capital Equipment strategy for products and programs and work cross-functionally with R&D, marketing, operations, and manufacturing specialists to take those ideas and new products from concept to completion utilizing Pugh Matrixes and other techniques.
  • Act as a resource for NPI programs from initial scoping, through supplier selection, installation, and post-launch. 
  • Drive to achieve the best commercial terms including price, quality, delivery,  risk mitigation, after-sales service, and warranty.
  • Provide direction and coach Contract Analyst(s). 
  • Ensure agreements and POs are written such that they offer maximum protection to  GEA and the initiator of the requisition in the event a dispute arises.
  • Complete  Contract Reviews with cross-functional representation as appropriate to the level of risk (e.g., level of spend, exclusions to standard conditions,  etc.).

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field. 
  • Seven (7) years relevant experience within manufacturing, program management, cost estimating, commodity management, or in a related role involving negotiating, identifying opportunities, selecting suppliers, implementing contracts, and in-depth technical expertise with Capital Equipment.
  • 2+ years demonstrated experience as a Manufacturing or Tooling Engineer involved in the specification, should costing, cost estimating, and implementing capital equipment and tools within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting new product introductions or product transitions.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of issues, initiate actions, and make effective selections.
  • Ability to take inputs from multiple functions and perspectives and translate them into an actionable plan while reconciling and integrating vying interests.
  • Understands big picture and aligns priorities with broader goals, measures outcomes, uses feedback to change as needed, evaluates alternatives, is solutions-oriented, seeks alternatives and wide input; can see connections within complex issues.
  • Sound interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills—ability to distill complex messaging into a concise, clear message.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and tight timelines professionally and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change, influence others, and build collaborative relationships with internal business partners; must have a broad understanding of the GEA business and the role Sourcing plays within it.  
  • Exceptional communication skills and demonstrates ability to effectively influence.
  • MS Office, specifically exceptional Excel skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of Sourcing experience with direct ownership of spend categories.
  • Tooling experience, specifically in metal stamping. 
  • Tooling focused degree(s) and certification(s). 
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) experience gained while working in operations, research, development, or manufacturing.
  • Proven track record of partnering across business units to drive synergy savings.



  • Up to 15% (possibly international) travel to suppliers, or internal product sites will be required.
