The Challenge

This role serves as a key member of the Legal Department's commercial legal team, focused on managing the contracting process for and providing legal guidance to the Sales team selling to home builders (single and multi-family) and property managers. This role also provides support to other Sales teams and other members of the Legal Department.

What you will Do

  • The GE Appliances Corporate Counsel - Commercial will serve as a key member of the commercial legal team, primarily supporting the appliance Sales team selling to home builders (single and multi-family) and property managers.    
  • Review, draft and negotiate commercial agreements that drive profitable sales while mitigating risk in accordance with internal risk profiles.
  • Manage contracting processes for the appliances Sales team, including managing a large volume of construction contracts, and related documents, for appliance sale, delivery and installation in new construction and form agreements for appliance sales in the retail channel.
  • Close sales by finalizing the contracting process and effectively interfacing directly with external customers and internal clients.
  • Effectively interface directly with internal clients, providing timely legal advice, counsel and risk assessment
  • Assist with a wide variety of legal issues related to product distribution, including managing dealer terminations and providing counsel on marketing, advertising and pricing issues. 
  • Integrate into builder channel Sales team, and participate in their staff meetings, trade shows and other activities where the field sales team is together in a single location (some travel required)
  • Create and present legal compliance training to large groups of Sales team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel – Commercial.

What you need to Succeed


  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with active bar membership, in good standing, in any US state and ability to gain admission to the Kentucky Bar as in house counsel.
  • 5-8 years practicing law in a law firm or corporate legal department, with focus on distribution law, commercial transactions, general business law, commercial litigation or similar field.
  • Dynamic, positive, proactive, and creative thinker with effective problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and resolving legal issues quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and heavy workload in fast-past business.
  • Strong judgment and ability to understand and balance business/legal considerations.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, diplomatic, communication (oral and written) and computer skills.
  • Ability to influence others and to manage and enforce key processes.
  • Willingness to respond to internal clients in multiple time zones during and after regular business hours.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with any of the following subject matters:
  • Commercial (UCC) litigation, especially in the construction industry context:
  • general liability insurance
  • UCC contract negotiation and drafting AIA form agreements
  • Antitrust law
  • Credit and/or secured transactions
  • Construction law
  • In house practice, especially supporting product distribution for a major manufacturing company
