The Challenge

The Technical Support Engineer provides controls/technical support and equipment expertise to Plant Operations. This critical engineering role is a member of the Manufacturing Engineering & Facilities Team. The role is involved directly in production equipment troubleshooting and repair. This role supports the Total Productive Maintenance initiative. The role develops and implements strategies/ projects to improve production equipment reliability and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).

What you will Do

  • Provide technical support for AP5 Production Equipment/Plant Facility Systems on Third Shift.
  • Lead the equipment troubleshooting process on critical equipment. Support the repair and improvement of production equipment.
  • Provide equipment controls expertise including PLC’s programming.
  • Lead and coach maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Own information sharing & prioritization across the shifts to ensure that adjacent members of the equipment escalation team are provided with correct and timely information.
  • Communicate equipment status with the Production Team.
  • Lead and direct skilled trades Maintenance and Tool & Die personnel on equipment repairs.
  • Foster a positive relationship with the Maintenance team - coach, resource and promote a culture of accountability.
  • Identify repetitive problems, troubleshoot equipment and develop and implement solutions.
  • Responsible for identifying and prioritizing major (chronic) maintenance issues with production and to initiate and develop action plans to resolve issues.
  • Utilize the Plant Work Order system for documenting material and labor in equipment repairs (Oracle eAM)
  • Conduct investigations of critical failures and report findings.

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent discipline.
    Demonstrate strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes with demonstrated technical ability.
  • Experience in training others in root cause based troubleshooting, schematic reading, PLC's and ladder logic programming, PID loop control, variable frequency drives, Ethernet communications, HMI Software (Cimplicity, WonderWare, Citect), Vision Systems and safety procedures such as Lock Out -Tag Out.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills
  • Strong leadership skills including interpersonal, facilitation, communication and team building skills
  • Proven Analytic and Technical Skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to implement long-term plans into day-to-day operations
  • Solid Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft suite, software/programming and PLC)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated - ability to balance multiple priorities and effectively determine level of responsiveness and resource allocation

Working Conditions:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
