The Challenge

The Sr. Purchasing Program Manager (NPI-Site FirstBuild/Small Appliances) – manages product costs within the FirstBuild product line and supports the connectivity to the GEA Small Appliances Microenterprise to drive profitability, cost improvements, supply chain and margin optimization for the product line, by managing the sourcing activities necessary to ensure profitable and on-time execution of FirstBuild and SDA new product introductions (NPI’s).

What you will Do

Product Line Support
  • Oversee the identification and achievement of product cost-out priorities, closely partnering with Technology, Manufacturing, Product Management, and Supplier Quality.
  • Drive direct material cost reduction through supplier leverage, e-bid/request for quote (RFQ), part consolidation/standardization, etc.
  • Balance consumer experience curve with features.  Understand commercial landscape for the product, and engage with commodity buyers and suppliers to explore new innovation ideas to drive margin optimization; provide feedback to product line.
  • Perform competitive-cost analysis (Like Grade & Quality - LGQ) and make vs. buy analysis.
  • Conduct product tear-downs with Technology to evaluate product competitiveness; identify opportunities and drive improvement projects.
  • Evaluate and drive opportunities for cost out.
  • Ensure suppliers can meet long term GEA demand. Understand GEA factory demand and supplier capacity of parts.
  • Understand and monitor supplier risk and be involved in strategy to respond to risk concerns.
  • Address systemic, long-term delivery issues due to long term capacity issues or supply constraints.
  • Proactively solve issues constraining attainment of 95% In-Stock Rate.
  • Participate on Product Council reviewing model changes/introductions (Multi-Generational Product Plan) and address supply chain issues proactively.
  • Mentor team members to ensure flawless execution on all key metrics.
     
NPI Activities
  • Serve as an integral member of a new product introduction (NPI) team from concept to launch, ensuring launch executes at or below committed costs.
  • Maintain traceability and accountability to cost and schedule estimates as programs progress and regularly report out to sourcing leadership.
  • Understand current product cost target, including industry LGQ landscape, potential follow-on projects, and cost-out targets.
  • Collaboratively work with Commodity Buyers and Supplier Quality on quoting, negotiation, supplier selection (ensuring best suppliers and price), and the supplier onboarding process. 
  • Participate and provide input in integrated program (iP) reviews.
  • Drive resolutions to any NPI issues related to suppliers (including cost, delivery, safety, and quality).
  • Review/Approve Business Change Notices and drawings for Sourcing.
  • Provide updated Part Information Tracker (PITs)  information with accurate part costs and lead times that comply with program milestone imperatives. 
  • Drive Technology, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and Materials teams to comply with program schedule to allow Sourcing to achieve goals.
  • Drive and support Supplier Quality and Technology for timely PPAP completion.
  • Monitor and drive Materials team to mitigate program-related obsolescence and/or cancellation charges.
  • Work with Materials and Supplier Quality to complete successful transition from NPI launch to stable regular production.
  • Partner with program Service team members to ensure Service parts are in-stock at program launch.
  • Partner with Commodity Buyers, Supplier Quality, and/or Technology to develop early supplier engagement and development strategies for assigned programs, including R&D collaboration, supplier risk abatement, and product risk abatement.

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering or related field.
  • 5 years experience within Sourcing and/or relevant experience within supply chain, program management or commodity management.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively influence.
  • Proven supplier management, negotiating, influencing, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, possessing excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Solid team player that collaborates well with others to solve problems and effectively incorporates input from various sources.
  • Professional oral/written communication.
  • Proven solid problem solving and collaborative skills to develop and implement business strategies cross-functionally and globally.
  • Demonstrated team player .
  • Change agent with excellent facilitative leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • MS Excel and database expertise.
     
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated success in previous Purchasing Program Management or Commodity Buying roles (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge and prior working experience with new product introductions (NPI).
  • Prior Sourcing experience with global supply base.
     
Working Conditions:
  • 15-25% domestic and international travel to GEA manufacturing facility and suppliers will be required
