The Challenge

Join the GE Appliances Power Electronics team as a Senior Software Engineer and help deliver the next generation of high-end and energy efficient motor controls for induction cooking and water heater controls. We provide learning opportunities, challenges, and support for our team and are committed to continuous improvement. Collaborate with a cross-functional and cross-product line group of product managers, systems engineers, electronics engineers, software engineers, and QA testers to refine requirements and deliver high-quality software, on schedule.

What you will Do

  • Collaborate in the software architecture definition for control systems of power electronics embedded controls.
  • Develop flexible firmware architecture based on highly modular concepts.
  • Collaborate in the development of GUI applications for parametric data entry and system level testing.
  • Develop software documentation, including software requirements specifications, software design documents, validation plans, etc.
  • Collaborate in or lead software peer reviews.
  • Write, debug, and test code in C/C++.
  • Work in close collaboration with global design and manufacturing teams to successfully complete project deliverables.
  • Lead software certification through agency approval process.

What you need to Succeed

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, or technical equivalent.
  • Self-starting leader with 6 or more years of engineering experience in embedded control software/firmware development.
  • Experience developing power conversion control system firmware.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in embedded software development employing C/C++ programming language and structured programming.
  • Strong project management and analytical/problem solving skills with demonstrated ability to scope and analyze cross-functional problems to generate/implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing requirements during the development process.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to ~10%)

Desired Characteristics:

  • MS degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, or technical equivalent.
  • Experience with Test-Driven development, Agile, continuous integration, and build/test automation software practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise employing Matlab to model and optimize control systems.
  • Experience in developing embedded software employing ARM core microcontrollers.
  • Diverse motor control design experience with a variety of motor technologies, including induction, brushless DC motors, and permanent magnet synchronous motors.
  • Experience with GitHub/ZenHub.
  • Experience with 3rd party agencies and software certification, such as UL60730 or UL1998.
  • Experience developing PC based applications employing Lua, Python, .NET framework, LabView, and/or XML.
