The Challenge

The GE Appliances Material Planner on our Dishwasher team will monitor materials needed for short term schedules as well as manage longer term supply chain issues to ensure no disruption to plant operations. The Material Planner will also manage the daily material flow efforts and deliver continuous improvement in material flow. Candidates with prior material planning, international purchasing along with ERP and or advanced computer skills such as Access Database or Excel expertise are encouraged to apply.

What you will Do

  • Manage material flow for a portfolio of suppliers to maintain 98% product availability, 100% schedule achievement, and schedule changes. The portfolio of suppliers will be focused on commodities and points of origin.

  • Resolve supplier issues and develop cost-effective strategies to cut the impact of material availability issues.  Develop supplier relationships to respond to electronic scheduling. 

  • Ensure inventory quantities, e-packing slips and receipts are accurate and maintained.  Resolve supplier issues and inventory surplus/deficits as required.

  • Work with the quality team to ensure proper inventory coverage when parts are rejected from working inventory.

  • Work with Receiving, Production Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Material Handlers to give designated/adequate storage space and facilities for all assigned commodities.  Update part changes into the "plan for every part".  Maximize the use of returnable containers to the fullest extent possible. Where returnable containers are not possible give a cut-free alternative.  

  • Develop and manage efforts to maintain accurate perpetual inventory records.

  • Deliver inventory reduction through improved material planning, supplier cycle reductions, work in process improvements, vendor-managed inventory, etc.

  • Improve material availability to support production and customer requirements through corrective actions for availability/span issues, improved supplier response times, transportation planning, and inventory management.

  • Manage respective transportation and logistics costs to reduce inventory and steer year-over-year productivity. Manage other special projects as necessary.

  • Support plant/product variable cost productivity initiatives including material cost out, supplier moves, high volume productivity, etc.

  • Give detailed and comprehensive standard work for material flow operations.

What you need to Succeed

Requirements:

  • BS Engineering (IE, ME or EE), BS Business Administration, or equivalent experience.

  • Prior Material planner, material controls, or general materials experience.

  • Proven systems capabilities.

  • Solid leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Customer focus, high energy, and proactive approach to issues.

  • Ability to handle many priorities and tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six Sigma certification with experience in DMAIC, workout, and other change mechanisms.

  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing setting.

  • Supplier management experience.

  • Experience with materials-specific software.

  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-oriented work team mindset.

  • Excellent project management, tracking, and detailed planning skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Candidates with ERP and or advanced computer skills such as Access Database or Excel expertise are encouraged to apply.
