The Challenge

The Principal Digital Manufacturing Engineer will support the Executive Director of Advanced Manufacturing to shape the operational strategy and drive the digital transformation for processes and tooling, ensuring cutting edge digital dimensional development and control practices are implemented across the advanced manufacturing engineering organization.

What you will Do

  • Lead, inspire, and motivate the AME organization by driving innovation and continuous improvement in digital dimensional control
  • Support a culture of simultaneous engineering focused on both process-driven product design and product-driven process design- enabling robust decisions involving both the product and the process to be made early in the design stage.
  • Engage with the NPI teams early in the product development process to recognize and manage variation during design, manufacturing, and assembly to meet customer quality expectations for function and appearance.
  • Partner with the Design and Quality Dimensional Control Teams to develop and promote early cross-functional team engagement to drive robust product and process design decisions to recognize and manage process-driven dimensional variation
  • Guide and implement world class automotive dimensional control best practices in tooling and equipment design using common locator strategies, dimensionally focused process simulation, and tooling and equipment verification using 3D metrology.
  • Drive cross-functional team sign-off ensure robust decisions are made at all critical design stages for parts, tooling, equipment, gages, and inspection fixtures
  • Implement a skillset development plan for the AME organization related to the application of GD&T, model-based definition, functional gaging, part inspection, root cause analysis, and tooling and equipment verification using 3D scanning and Laser Tracker
  • Develop and implement dimensional control standards related to the application of best practices in tooling and equipment design; develop and drive standard work for the archival all Digital AME datasets- NPI and Production Control
  • Promote a culture of innovation and learning through external collaborations and best practice benchmarking; Influence senior leadership on best practices and execute a plan to operationalize new processes

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Appliance industry experience
  • Design Engineering, Quality Engineering, or Manufacturing/operations experience 7+ Years
  • Strong understand of dimensional control methods and best practices pertaining to tooling and equipment design and execution
  • Experienced in the application, interpretation, and measurement of GD&T
  • Experience with Stamping, Injection Molding, and various other machining operations
  • Experiences in supporting NPI program launches and execution of tooling and equipment
  • Highly experienced with CAD design software, comfortable working within various 3D environments
  • Highly experienced digital metrology and 3D scanning for root cause analysis, part inspection, tooling verification and having the ability to analyze scan data and provide guidance to engineers
  • Proven experience training and mentoring engineers with the ability to demonstrate the tools and lead by example
  • Demonstrated innovative background with the ability to develop and implement new engineering tools and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change by leading, inspiring, and motivating cross-functional teams
  • Strong growth-based mindset and entrepreneurial spirit, ability to communicate a vision and lead the execution
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels of the organization to drive cultural change; works cross-functionally

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical master’s degree/MBA
  • GEA appliance manufacturing process/system knowledge/experience
  • GEA product development system knowledge/experience
  • Strong expertise in the use of 3D Scanning, Polyworks, and Laser Tracker for part and equipment qualification and validation
  • Highly experienced with automotive-based dimensional control standards and best practices
  • Highly experienced with automotive-based quality standards and practices APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC
  • Highly experienced with the interpretation of model-based definition (MBD) using Creo and navigating parts and assemblies using Windchill
  • Highly experience in the application of GD&T or ASME Technologist Certification

Working Conditions:

  • Travel to equipment suppliers and satellite plants as required (up to 30%)
  • Walking and standing in manufacturing environment/manufacturing plant
