The Challenge

The Challenge:

The Metrology Engineer will support the Central Metrology Group to shape the strategy and steer the integration of dimensional management practices into the GEA manufacturing operation process.

  • Oversee the metrology work order process - meet with requestors to define measurement requirements on complex parts, offer feedback and advice on fixturing and correct measurement method, lead data reviews.

  • Ability to deep dive and analyze measurement data.Must be able to communicate/explain the data/outputs to the customer (AQE, AME, QIE etc.).

  • Edit/write Polyworks templates (CMM & Scan).Ability to modify or troubleshoot programs as needed.

  • GOM 3D scanbox support – assist in all 3D scanning efforts (QMS, PPAP, Rootcause) – scanbox programming, kiosk mode development, scanbox troubleshooting/support, scanbox calibration/maintenance, NPI template creation.

  • DataLoop maintenance - software update communications to business, scanbox dataloop process – piece propagation, template cleanup, re-running pieces.

  • Support GEA’s mobile metrology equipment work order execution –expected to execute equipment and product field measurements as needed.

  • Support the development and growth of a robust dimensional data management systems. Assist with developing lab standards and best practices across all GEA metrology labs.

  • Teach the lab techs on proper scanning and CMM techniques. Train engineers and requestors as to the capabilities of the 3D scanning equipment in the scan lab. 

  • Promote a culture of innovation and learning through development of new measurement technology, processes, and external collaborations and benchmarking.

What you need to Succeed

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar.

  • 2+ years of experience with Metrology Engineering or Dimensional Engineering.

  • Experienced in 3D metrology and model-based inspection methods using CMM, structured light scanning, laser, CT x-ray, or measuring arm.

  • Experienced in conducting dimensional analysis of parts and assemblies using 3D metrology data from scanning, CMM, using Polyworks inspection software or similar.

  • Experience using inspection software such as PolyWorks, GOM ATOS, or similar.

  • Experienced in automotive quality processes including applying and leveraging the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process per the AIAG Standard.

  • Knowledge in part and assembly modeling using PTC Creo and Windchill PLM.

  • Experienced reading, interpreting, and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5 GD&T 2009 standard.

  • Experienced the application of model-based definition, interpreting and defining inspection routines using GD&T based MBD annotations.

  • Proficient in working with digital tools and CAD-based digital engineering software.

  • Self-starter, innovative, eager to develop and implement new dimensional engineering tools and practices.

  • Sound communication skills, ability to coach and mentor engineers in new tools and processes.
