The Challenge

The Director, Manufacturing Digital Technology (DT) is responsible for the digital transformation strategies and systems used within the Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) & Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) functions at GE Appliances. This role drives the development and transformation of digital systems while ensuring business continuity to support manufacturing processes.

The Director, Manufacturing Digital Technology is responsible for establishing sound opportunity development, portfolio and project management, executive stakeholder management and business analysis practices and tools for the team. Key areas of focus include Plant Productivity, Industry 4.0, Brilliant Factory 2.0, Material Efficiencies, and Plant Ecosystems.

What you will Do

Develop DT business strategic and execution plan, providing reliable and enabling technologies to automate and transform business functions:

• Oversee the development and implantation of digital strategies and roadmaps for Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, AME & EHS
• Work with Materials Leadership drive programs that deliver Material efficiency for the business
• Partner with DT Manufacturing Development team in to develop Digital Performance Management (DPM) programs to enable Plant Productivity, including Industry 4.0 and Brilliant Factory 2.0
• Drive the Sr Manager & team to ensure we deliver DT Capabilities to ensure Production Plants are enabled to deliver on the plan
• Ensure robust Cloud & Data Analytics strategies are in place for Manufacturing
• Partner with DT Digital COE and DT Supply Chain Leadership to deliver Plant Independence, Hardware/Networking Restructuring, etc.
• Drive team to design & build solutions in ERP and related strategic business platforms
• Oversee the design, architecture and development of future automated Inventory Management and Reconciliation systems, leveraging ERP
• Head up the team to design & build solutions in ERP to optimize supply chain management processes
• Partner with business executives and other key stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives related to technologies. Ensure alignment on business priorities amongst business managers and stakeholders.
• Successfully deliver business value through technology projects: define and oversee program and project deliverables, budgets, service level agreements and resource needs
• Partner with DT leadership in areas such as Sourcing, Manufacturing, Local Delivery and Commercial to execute cross functional programs
• Drive the prioritization of DT programs with their business teams, securing business and DT resources to drive and execute programs on-time, in budget and with high quality

Provide outstanding team leadership:

• Manage, mentor & guide DT functional resources
• Ensure team members are executing to GE Appliances’ strategy and developing technical solutions that support the business’ growth goals
• Ensure that the organization has the required skills and capabilities
• Provide leadership, coaching, support and development opportunities to develop an exceptional team
• Develop and ensure employee capability through performance management processes, talent reviews, training and development and effective staffing selections
• Run a diverse team of full-time and contract technology professionals including Programmers, Developers, Systems/Business Analysts, Architects, Project Managers & Program Managers
• Mentor and coach team members to perform by providing challenging assignments, timely feedback and clear direction
• Ensure clear goals & objectives for each team, as well as individual growth plans aligned to the DT strategy

Other related duties as assigned:

• Program, budget, and people management processes
• Support system refreshes or upgrades
• Identify and escalate compliance concerns as needed

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent discipline, required
• Ten (10) years of prior relevant experience in roles of increasing responsibility within DT application architecture and design
• 3 plus years’ experience leading IT team(s) or related team(s) with experience operating at a senior manager-level
• Sound knowledge of wing-to-wing Business processes, Matrix & Reporting
• Understands and operates at an enterprise-wide level; aligns priorities with broader goals, measures outcomes – metrics guided, uses feedback to change as needed, evaluates alternatives, solutions oriented, seeks alternatives and broad input; can see connections within complex issues
• Ability to influence and guide executive-level managers and reconcile, integrate competing interests
• Must be able to elevate the way we run the business and demonstrate transformational business change that positively impacts our customers and the business, understands various Manufacturing business metrics and has experience in implementing them using technology
• Proven ability to drive cross-functional, transformational changes that impact multiple functions while making the right business tradeoffs. Data driven decision making skills
• Demonstrates initiative and takes action proactively.  Possesses the self-discipline to take actions before they are necessary, optimism towards achieving positive outcome and the competitiveness to translate a plan into action.
• Excellent problem solving, analytic, and project management skills.  Goal-oriented and proactive in problem solving, coupled with creativity and a high energy level
• Solid interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Proven ability to communicate a technical solution in a way that is easy to understand
• Possess exceptional leadership skills; inclusive, people-focused technology person who serves as mentor and coach to the team
• Avid learner and stays current on industry trends and best practices

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Business, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent
• Twelve (12) years of prior relevant experience in roles of increasing responsibility within application architecture and design
• 3 plus years’ experience leading an IT application or related team(s) with experience operating at a director-level
• Knowledge ERP/MES/SASS/IIOT implementations highly preferred


• 10% travel required for domestic and/or international travel to customer sites / distribution centers, etc.
