Union Relations Senior Manager, Factory Service

The Challenge

The Union Relations Senior Manager provides Human Resources leadership to the Factory Service Division of GEA. The Union Relations Leader will work closely with salaried employees and the Union leadership to further advance a culture of continuous improvement, achievement of business objectives, and positive Union relations.

What you will Do


•    Responsible for leadership of all Factory Service labor relations with six unions representing approximately 500 employees; duties include establishment and maintenance of excellent relationships with unions’ leadership, representation of management in grievance procedure, negotiation of local contracts with constituent unions and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
•    Develop a fundamental cultural change and communication plan with approximately 500 non-union factory service technicians.  
•    Serve as Business Partner to Consumer Operations Leadership Team to drive continuous improvement and achievement of business objectives.
•    Lead, coach and develop a team of salaried professionals. 
•    Develop a strong partnership with Senior HR business partners to provide seamless functional HR support to the organization, drive Human Resource compliance, and ensure standardization and consistency of our processes, policies and procedures across Factory Service.
•    Administer and support all GE and GE Appliances HR policies and initiatives.
•    Establish, modify, and support HR practices and policies as required.
•    Ability to travel up to 30% of the month.  

Position Requirements
•    Knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws.
•    Experience interpreting, applying and advising on Collective Bargaining Agreements.
•    Ability to work at a strategic level and be able to execute on day-to-day operational matters.
•    Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build strong partnerships, with a proven track record of developing and implanting innovative and progressive labor and employment practices.
•    Robust and proven skills in union relations.
•    Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
•    Experience conducting investigations on employee relations issues.
•    Ability to coach and facilitate change at all levels of an organization.
•    Proven business acumen and ability to drive business results.
•    Excellent communication and facilitation skills; ability to communicate with and drive results with all levels of the business.
•    Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
•    Experience leading difficult conversations with employees.
•    Outstanding presentation skills.
•    Ability to build and maintain relationships.
 

What you need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Labor Relations, or Business.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Labor Relations, Human Resources, or Leadership within a union manufacturing environment.
  • Must have the ability to travel 30% of the time, sometimes with limited notice
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Industrial Labor Relations, Human Resources or MBA focused on Human Resources.
  • Union negotiations experience as a lead negotiator or 2nd chair.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in Human Resources, including conflict resolution, policy/procedure development, and administration.
  • HR experience in union and non-union work environments.
