Roper Plant Operations
Roper Corporation, a subsidiary of GE Appliances, a Haier Company, manufactures ranges, wall ovens, and cooktops under the GE Appliances, Profile, Monogram, and Café brands. Roper Corporation was constructed in 1972 and has grown from 500,000 square feet in size to over 1,100,000 square feet, currently employing over 1,800 people. In addition to the manufacturing and warehousing operations, the facility also includes design laboratories and complete engineering functions.
The Roper Corporation traces its origins to 1874 as the Florence Machine Company of Massachusetts, a manufacturer of kerosene stoves. The Florence Machine Company acquired the E-Z Way Stove Works plant in Kankakee, Illinois in 1929. Production was concentrated on gas ranges until the start of World War II when its efforts were changed to producing 55mm shells and armor plating for tanks.
